The Best Android Movie Apps

By Steve McFarlane

From finding the right movie, to finding the right theater to watch that movie in, there are many options to consider when planning the perfect movie night. Ensure that you choose the right option by using these Android movie apps to find reviews, preview trailers and find the right location the next time you decide to go and watch something.

Movies (by Flixster)

This is a great app for finding reviews, trailers and movie show times, including local listings. The app also shows a map of movies that are close to your current location so you can save on time and gas, if that’s your preference. You can also search for a movie by name. The app also lists reviews from Rotten Tomatoes and your friends so you don’t have to make a decision base in your impressions only. This free movie app can also:

  • Display a list of local theaters
  • Show the top Box Office hits
  • List of new releases
  • Manage Netflix queue
  • Browse thousands of DVDs
  • Used to watch movie trailers

IMDb Movies & TV

You will be hard pressed to find a better movie and television guide for your Android device than this one. IMDb’s Movies & TV app is a one-stop shop for watching trailers, browsing photos of stars, getting TV listings, and tracking DVD and Blu-ray releases.

If you are not in the mood to search through the complete database (over 1.5 million movies and TV shows), you can pick something from the top 250 list. You can download and install IMDb Movies & TV using this QR code.

Movie Finder

This app can sort movies by title, release date and ratings, but before you see results you need to set your current location in the Movie Finder - Android Movie Finder Appsettings tab. Once you have done so, you can sort through theatres that are closest to you, or search for a theater by name. You can then pull up a short description of the movies on offer, including links to ratings, reviews and trailers.  Once you have decided on what you want to watch, you can find information on how to reach the nearest theatre that is showing the movie. Great way to find reviews and recommendations before I go out to see something.

If you want to expand your movie knowledge, get the “Today in Movie History” app (for iPhone and Android). This app is a great way for breaking the ice with someone new or just a fun way to start the day.

It includes everything from celebrity births and deaths, movie releases and important events in movie history. You can even share the facts through Twitter, Facebook, SMS and more.
