Best Android Games – Augmented Reality Games

By Steve McFarlane

Augmented reality games allow players to use their phones to interaction with a so-called parallel universe. From shooter to treasure hunt games, these apps allow Android users to have fun with their phones in ways that weren’t possible before. Here is a list of some of the best augmented-reality games for Android mobile devices.

Parallel Kingdom

Uses your phone’s GPS and Google Map to show you a so-called parallel universe that’s all around you. The app can be used to discover other users, trade resources, claim land, plant trees and hunt with other players. The game is a trans-reality application, in that objects (monsters, resources etc) are superimposed onto a map of your real-world location. Of such, users will be able to move their character to a new location by physically moving there in the real world; players can also explore a mapped area that is outside of their immediate location.

Once the user comes across a resource he can claim it, and if the player comes across another player he can start a chat, so the game is quite social.  The game handles treasures and resources in a similar way to World of Warcraft, and because it is a MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game) the action never stops; not surprisingly, so you can waste some serious time playing this augmented reality game. This is an augmented reality ghost hunting game.  Use your phone’s GPS and camera to walk around and catch virtual ghosts that are close to your current location. This is a fantastic way to spend an afternoon (or night) with your kids, or motivate yourself to get up and out of the coach in order to get some exercise. The game works best when used outdoor and locations where you have lots of space to roam. QR Code

The concept behind this AR game is to look for objects in and around your immediate location and shoot them. This is more than a 3D shoot-em-up game. In fact, it puts the user in the game and allows them to dodge and stalk targets before pulling the trigger. Players will have to stay on their toes though, because the targets come from every angle. Thankfully, there is a radar that shows where the targets are located and the angle they are approaching you from.

We know that this list is not comprehensive, so feel free to suggest any Android augmented reality games that you think should be included here; you may do so in the comments section below. QR code

Sky Siege

This game turns your phone into a world filled with hostile, gunships, helicopters and jet bombers.  Your mission is to use your Ack-Ack gun, and a limited supply of rockets to defend your tower. The game is engaging and fun, but be warned, this 3D augmented reality game is a resource hog. You will need a fast processor if you want smooth game play.  QR code
