The Best Android Finance Apps

By Steve McFarlane

Smart phones are convenient tools from for staying connected and even getting work done remotely. Android finance applications allow for this capability to be further leveraged in managing one’s expenses as well as making it more convenient to do mundane things such as depositing a check.

This is a roundup of the best Android Finance apps. The list includes tax apps, budgeting apps, mileage, and expense tracking apps. You can download any of these Android finance apps by scanning the QR Code with a barcode scanner app..

Chase Mobile

Once you are logged into Chase Mobile, you can manage your personal finances by paying bills (i.e. credit cards and utilities), reviewing account balances, transferring money between accounts and finding Chase branches, and ATMs that are close to your current location. The one feature that sets this app apart from other banking apps is the fact that you can make a deposit with the app.  Simply use Chase Mobile to take a photo of the check (front and back); enter some basic information and Chase Mobile will process the deposit just as if you had gone in-branch to do so.

It may take you a few tries to get a properly focused shot of the check that the app can use, but it is well worth the effort — it certainly beats having to go deposit the check in a branch. Besides, your friends will be absolutely impressed when they see you doing your banking.

Gas BuddyQR Code - GasBuddy - Find Cheap Gas - Map Gas Prices

Find Cheap Gas with GasBuddy. This app is the front-end of a community of users that help each other find gas at the best prices. The app lists gas stations that are closest to the user’s current location, and the prices that the stations are currently selling fuel at.  The prices and stations can be sorted by fuel type (regular, midrange, premium and diesel). This is not only an app for frugal and price conscious motorists, but it is also a great app for gas station managers who want to keep an eye on their competitors. We think this is the best app for finding cheap gas.

This is a great solution for tracking miles traveled, fuel costs and related expenses. Mileage tracker has an option for using the IRS’s Standard Mileage Rates as a default reimbursement rate, so the app can be used to track numbers that are relevant come tax time. The app can also track multiple vehicles; has an export to email feature and can chart monthly mileage usage.

Mileage Tracker can be especially useful to those who need to track their business miles for tax purposes and client billing. Other notable features include: a mileage log, start stop odometer, mile/kilo units and options to record toll charges. The app costs $1.99.

Financisto

This is a great app to have on your phone so you can record all your expense and ultimately see where you money is going. Financisto is an open-source personal finance manager that can handle multiple bank accounts, but its list of features doesn’t end there. The app can be used to:

  • Transfers, even among different currencies
  • Schedule recurring transactions
  • Create and maintain a budget
  • Backup records and transactions
  • Handle multiple credit cards and bank accounts.

Expense manager

This is a great app for tracking weekly, monthly and yearly income and expense. The app can also:

  • Track expenses by categories
  • Manage multiple user accounts
  • Import and export Account activities
  • Raise payments alerts
  • Schedule payments (onetime and recurring)

TurboTax SnapTax

It turns out that technology can help you file your taxes more quickly. Use TurboTax’s SnapTax to snap a photo of your W-2 form, answer a few quest and then e-file your returns. The app was built for people with:

  • Income of $80k or less ($100k if married)
  • Income only from W-2s interest, or unemployment
  • No dependents
  • No home or real estate ownership

Bloomberg

Bloomberg is a well-respected business and financial news service, and now most of the resource that it offers is available through its Android app. With the Bloomberg Mobile Android you can get market data, business and financial news that could impact your forex, options and stock portfolios. In addition to providing up to the minute news coverage of market moving events, the app also has easy-to-understand charts and graphs to illustrate what is happening.
